Armageddon Expo 2017 Wellington

It has been quite a wild month with so much work going on, plus getting over a pretty bad cold, and this is well overdue.

Back in early June Silver Duck went to Armageddon Expo and as usual we had a great time despite the bitterly cold weather. Caught up with the Geddon buddies and had an awesome time connecting with people and witnessing the amazing work people have put into their cosplay.

Here are my favourite photos from the event, for all of the photos go to Silver Duck website (photos by Silver Duck – both myself and J). Thank you for letting us take your photos, and see you again on the next event.

Cosplay parade (day 1)

We had Sri Nair keeping us company again on day 1 this year ;) His Deathstroke cosplay has been upgraded since last year, and we had lots of fun roaming the floor, taking selfies, and even did a mini shoot with him.

Brother Cosplay Contest (day 3)

It was a fun weekend and I’m loving the guest announcements for the Auckland event! Looks awesome so far!!

Armageddon Expo 2016 Wellington

Oh wow! A year went by so fast, because next thing I knew Wellington Armageddon Expo was here. This time around I was at the event at a different capacity. I was there as Silver Duck working with Pixie Captured Images for Behind the Themes to cover what was going on all around the event, as well as doing a few interviews with some of the celebrities. I had never taken so many cosplay pictures at the event before, and I must say that those cosplays are amazing! The work and effort that went into each and every one of those costumes are just stunning. For all the photos taken at this event, please go here. Below are some of my favourite photos from around the events.

I really hope I’ll get the chance to explore cosplay photography, because it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile, and taking photos at the event only showed that I still have a lot to learn, because it was something I’m unfamiliar with. (Keep scrolling down, there are panel & zombie alley photos as well).

Despite doing a lot of laps at the Stadium, I had time to catch some of the panels whenever I went past, as well as catching up with a few friends. Below are some photos from the panel:

Knowing that I’d most likely be busy during the event, I took the liberty to get my partner and I tickets to the opening party and the shindig, so I could have a night off and hang out with the guests as I didn’t think I’d have the chance to get their autographs (I resorted to absentee pack so I can get them) and photos with them. In the end I did get pictures with David Giuntoli, Tahmoh Penikett, and Cliff Simon on the last day (and I almost missed David and Tahmoh because I was taking photos and doing interviews).

Then there was this one time when we went through the zombie alley and Darren got mauled by the zombies :p Watch it here:

I managed to snap some awesome pictures before having to run out of there ;)

And, I also managed to get into the make up room, as the zombies were being done ;)

I had so much fun at this event, which got me buzzing for a few days afterwards. I miss my ‘geddon buddies already, but I’m sure we’ll meet again at the next one. My feet were so tired after walking lots of laps on concrete floor all day for 3 days, but it was all worth it, and I would like to once again thank Behind the Themes and Pixie Captured Images for taking me on for the task.

Armageddon Expo (Wellington) 2015 – Day 3

I always feel a bit sad on the last day of Armageddon Expo, because usually it’s the day I say bye to my friends, but then I look forward to see them again at the next Armageddon. I’ve done most of my shopping by then, so it was a pretty relaxing day, mainly spent at the main stage, and then we went and did the rounds to have a look at the stalls again in case we want to buy anything else. We really wished we could attend the closing party, but unfortunately the price was a bit steep so we had to miss out on it. Maybe next time :)

And before we left the venue, I got to meet the awesome Courtenay Taylor and took a picture with her after she signed a print of Jack from Mass Effect. Woohoo!!! *fangirl moment*

Until the next Armageddon Expo!! :D

Armageddon Expo (Wellington) 2015 – Day 2

Survived day 2! I expected it, but it was still another thing to actually experience it. Wow! If only I thought about whipping up my phone and take a photo while I was trying to make my way back to the main stage from the photo booth. It was so full of people that it took half an hour just to get from one end to the other, and it involved being sandwiched between so many people, standing still because the crowd weren’t moving anywhere, dodging people who decided to stop in the middle and have conversations, and being a bit frustrated because all I wanted was to get back to the main stage. Saw one of my friends from Aikido class who told me to smile when he saw me looking a little annoyed at the slow moving pace. Haha. At the end of the day it was a really fun day, got to meet Karen Gillan (my goodness she’s tall!), and then got to hang out with Sebastian Roche and Jim Beaver during the Supernatural bar crawl (and J got the nudge that he usually gets from my parents and friends, but this time it was from Sebastian. Hahaha), so yeah, it was an awesome day.

I can’t believe I did a bar crawl! Haha! It has been so many years since I last did one >_< LOL.

Armageddon Expo (Wellington) 2015 – Day 1

Sorry for the late post on this, but here it is!

It’s that time of the year again! I love Armageddon Expo because I get to see my friends and catch up with them. This time I also get to catch up with an old friend who I haven’t seen for years (he came down for NZ Comic Con) so that was a huge bonus!!

Photo 17-07-15 12 21 42

We got there a bit later than we’d like, and we didn’t bother jumping the line (we were on VIP passes) because the doors were already open. It didn’t take long before I bumped into so many familiar faces and had a bit of a catch up. We spent most of the day at the main stage, and I spent the day to do my shopping and the photos and autographs.

The loot!

So what did I get? Let’s see…..

Photo 17-07-15 17 15 52

Photo 17-07-15 17 35 12One of the first stalls I visited was BRM, because I really enjoyed The Warden vol 1 that I bought at last year’s Auckland Armageddon, and I wanted to get vol 2, and why not get other comics while I’m there? Bill happened to be there when I bought these and he signed them for me and also had a good chat about what’s coming up. I can’t wait for the next volume!

Somehow I kept on missing out on buying the expo tshirt everytime I attended the event in the past, so this year I made it a priority to get it on the first day, and of course I got The Warden design on the tshirt (coz I’m such a fan), and it happens to be the 20th anniversary edition, even better!

Photo 17-07-15 17 29 06

Let’s not forget the Dunny!! I always make a point to get a new one every time I’m at Armageddon Expo, and this Dunny is the new addition to my collection.

And the rest of them….

Photo 17-07-15 17 22 47

It was a good first day, I’d say ;) But anyway, sorry, no photos to share from the cocktail party. I think my iPhone hates J because the photos he took on them at the cocktail party were pretty blurry (but he takes awesome pictures with his film cameras under poor lighting condition, so my conclusion is that the iPhone hates him).

Armageddon Expo Day 4 Experience

I was almost sad knowing that this was the last day of Armageddon Expo, but the weekend had been so great and I was feeling so happy and I was glad we went up to Auckland again this year, and we got to make new friends too!

Before the panel started, I made my way to the stalls and got myself a copy of Beyond Reality Media‘s “The Warden”, and I wish I got the 2nd volume too, because I really enjoyed the comic! And I also got J a couple of Robert Rankin’s books, “Alice on Mars” and “The Kiwi Chronicles” and no doubt I will be reading them too, especially after listening to Rankin’s stories at the panel. Speaking of books, Kaz gave us a copy of Volume 1 & 2 or her “The Atlas Chronicles” books, which I am looking forward to read! :)

I didn’t take many pictures on this day because the light wasn’t that great, so only a couple of the panels have a separate entry for their photos, the rest are posted here.

Richard Dean Anderson VIP Panel – stage 2

Still my hero! RDA is awesome :) We had a good laugh at this panel, and RDA was just so friendly and chilled out. I got to tear up a little when he shared a story when someone asked about his proudest moment of being a father. I’m so glad I got to meet him! *Happy squeal*

Jacqueline Samuda & Suanne Braun Panel – stage 2

I’ve said it and will say it again, these two ladies are awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed their panel this weekend. View photos from this panel here.

Cliff Simon & Peter Williams Panel – stage 2

And straight afterwards, we were entertained by these two amazing gentlemen, I really enjoyed their panel too. They were very lovely :) Click here for photos from this panel.

William Kircher Hobbit trilogy Q&A panel – stage 2

I really should watch the Hobbit to see that particular barrel scene, me thinks! He wasn’t the only one who think the barrel scene was a lot of fun ;) The man was a lot of fun and very animated, I had a really good laugh at his panel! :D

Michael Hogan VIP Panel – stage 2

The last panel of the day, but one of the panels I had been waiting for! I missed out on his previous panel, so I was glad to be able to catch this one. I enjoyed his stories about his theatre experience, especially the one with the horse. Haha. So say we all!!!

Until next time…

It was time to say goodbye to our friends, and I have to say that I felt a bit sad, and we hope to see them again at the next Armageddon Expo. It has been such an amazing weekend, and I’m looking forward to the next one, especially that it’s going to be a big one! :) We closed off our weekend by going to a Thai restaurant Joy Dong, and had a nice relaxing meal, we had a long drive home ahead of us the next day. Thank you very much for the amazing weekend! We had a great time :)

Cliff Simon & Peter Williams Panel – Armageddon Expo (Auckland) Day 4

We had a great time at this panel with these two amazing gentlemen, and I’m also pretty happy to find out how they did the Ba’al torturing O’Neill scene in the episode “Abyss”, because I think that scene was really well done.

Sorry for the late post! Finally have a moment to catch up on posting the rest of my photos from Armageddon Expo.

Armageddon Expo Experience Day 3

First of all, apologies for the lack of updates for the last couple of days, between feeling under the weather (which I still am), work, and training, it’s getting difficult to find that peaceful moment to do a post or two during the weekdays. I’ll try my best to finish posts on Armageddon Expo soon, especially that it has been two weeks since the event.

On to day 3! :)

We got to the venue early, and went straight to the main stage to wait for the screening of Stargate SG-1 Children of the Gods. It was amazing watching one of my favourite shows in a theatre settings with fellow fans, because I knew I wasn’t the only one who was excited to see my favourite characters appeared on screen. We all clapped and laughed and cheered as they appeared, and it was heart-warming.

The System Lords panel – main stage

Just  like their VIP panel, the four of them were very entertaining on stage and I really enjoyed their presence there. I also learned that Peter Williams love golden kiwifruit. Click here to view photos from this panel.

Richard Dean Anderson panel – main stage

I think RDA is learning very fast especially when he asked how many Australians were there, and then told us to “go get them!” Ha!  He also said that he loved NZ especially the area by the Hobbiton (he kept calling it Hobbitville and kept getting corrected. LOL). Oh RDA, he was my childhood hero, and still my hero now! :) Click here for photos from this panel.

International Fantasy Author panel – stage 2

After a short break for lunch, we went to the fantasy author panel, I personally haven’t read any of Russell Meek, Terry Brooks or Robert Rankin’s books, because I’m more of a military science fiction fan instead of fantasy, but J is a fan of Rankin’s work, and he often explained some events that happened in the book to me, I remembered thinking of it as a fun madhouse, and I kept thinking that once I’ve finished with the books I’m reading, I’d give it a go. I came close to picking up Terry Brooks’ book before, I believe it was “Armageddon’s Children”, but I got distracted with another book before I started reading it, and perhaps I should check it out next time. And though I haven’t picked up Russell Meek’s book series, I found how he described his process of writing a scene to be quite interesting due to his background as a photographer, Kaz said that she could see the scenes when she read it. Photos from this panel are here.

David Hewlett & David Nykl VIP panel – stage 2

One of the panels I had been waiting for! Yesterday we were at David Nykl and David Hewlett’s individual panels and had a great time, I laughed until my tummy hurt, but put the two together, I think my face was stuck on my laughing face, because my cheeks hurt from so much laughing. Simply one of my favourite duo! :) Click here for photos on this panel.

Ghostfacers & DJ Qualls VIP panel – stage 2

I have only heard about AJ getting hurt on the Friday night, but didn’t know what actually happened until I heard one of my friends talked about it. I think the headline on the news could raise a few eyebrows. Ha! Anyway, one of the things that happened on this panel was DJ showing us a R18 rated fanart, which from what I could see, was actually pretty well done. Lol. I still haven’t caught up with Supernatural yet, or Ghostfacers for that matter (I think we watched like 3 episodes in the past two months, I think we’ll do better once we get to holiday season), but the three of them was a fun bunch :) Click here for photos from this panel.

So that’s the recap of day 3 :) This weekend is a bit of a busy one for me, so I’ll try to post the rest of my Armageddon Expo photos as fast as I can. Until the next post! :)

Ghostfacers & DJ Qualls VIP Panel – Armageddon Expo (Auckland) Day 3

If you don’t know why AJ was injured, here is what happened. Aaw what a fun bunch, DJ even showed a R18 fanart on his phone to us all.
